Taco Salad

 

Taco Salad Preparations

  • Brown 1/2 pound of ground beef
  • Brown 1/2 pound of sausage

Drain out the fat, then add

  • One jar of Picante Sauce (You may use your favorite Taco flavored mix, We just prefer the mild Picante Salsa Sauce) I never liked the packaged dry seasonings. They are much too salty.

Prepare Vegetables

  • Slice/chop a head of lettuce
  • Chop Sweet Bell Peppers (any color or all of them; green, red, yellow, orange)
  • Chop 2 - 3 tomatoes

Other Ingredients for Taco Salad

  • One pound of Sour Cream
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • One bag of Dorito's Nacho Chips (you will not use the whole bag)
  • Fresh Spinach Leaves (optional)
  • Super Blue Green Algea in powder form (optional)

There are two ways you can serve up a taco salad.

Ready to Eat Taco Salad

If you are worried that it might not get eaten up right away you could keep all the ingredients in separate containers in the refrigerator so when one wants to eat they can just serve themselves the amount of each ingredient they desire. That way everything will stay fresh for up to 3 - 4 days.

If you are feeding several guests and you think it will get eaten up rather quickly go ahead and arrange all the ingredients in one large bowl. It is important to keep the tomatoes away from the chips or it will make them soggy. So to achieve that I layer it like so. The first item on the list is the bottom of the bowl.

Layer From Bottom to Top

  1. 1/2 of Lettuce
  2. 1/2 of Peppers
  3. Layer of Chips
  4. Layer of Cheese
  5. All of the Sour cream
  6. All of the Tomatoes
  7. All of the Meat/Sauce
  8. Remaining Peppers
  9. Layer of Chips
  10. Layer of Cheese

Sometimes I arrange the top to make it look pretty such as garnished with tomato wedges. I like to serve it in a deep glass bowl such as a punch bowl because all the layers look inviting. Salad is best served the day it is made, may still be good the second day but after that the chips may become soggy.
